Who could have thought that, when we met at the Mobilise-D kick-off in April 2019, four years would pass before we were able to meet as a consortium again? Four years of hard work, battling a seemingly endless string of large and larger challenges and changes, but what accomplishments we managed to achieve! It’s been a long and challenging journey, but the results are truly remarkable: delivering 33 invited keynote addresses, publishing 72 peer-reviewed scientific papers, engaging 107 patients and healthy older adults in the comprehensive data collection for the technical validation, implementing almost 300 dissemination activities that collectively address all our stakeholders, and closing in on our target of 2400 patients that are followed longitudinally for the clinical validation. These are just a few numbers capturing both the enormous effort of Mobilise-D – and the excellent results the consortium is achieving. The Mobilise-D consortium consists of researchers, patients, pharma industry experts, technology developers, and healthcare professionals who have been working tirelessly to set the standards for digital mobility outcomes. These achievements are a proof to their hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
Entering the fifth and final year of Mobilise-D, we are looking ahead to ensure maximum impact by setting the standards for digital mobility outcomes, enabling their implementation in clinical trials and practice, stepping up engagement with pharma- and biotech industry, technology developers, CROs, and continuing to involve patients and patient organisations as research companions in our ongoing and planned work. Our work will continue, not just the coming year but also beyond.
Henry David Thoreau’s experience of taking a walk in the woods and coming out taller than the trees, is a perfect metaphor for the Mobilise-D consortium’s journey. We faced endless challenges and changes, but emerged stronger and better equipped to tackle future obstacles. Our work has the potential to improve the lives of millions of people worldwide.
